Somehow, it's been an entire month since we launched Arabella Jones, the home of sentimental gifts for military families. And what a month it's been!
Mr Arabella Jones disappeared back to work the week before our launch date, saving his ears from the incessant barrage of updates, ideas, and nervous excitement which had been coming his way for the entirety of his stay at home during lockdown. I'd toyed with the idea of owning a business for years, and like many others, our personal circumstances over the last few months just happened to push me into taking the leap.
Don't get me wrong, it hasn't been easy by any means - we have a toddler and I'm on maternity leave with our second son so there's been a lot of burning the candle at both ends, though not quite in the same way as I did in my college and university years. It was hard work but it's paid off.
So what have we achieved in this first month?
We began taking orders on day one and have since signed a contract with the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) to donate profits from our Proud to Support necklaces to help them continue to support sailors, marines, and their families for life.
We've become part of the MILSPO Business Network, a fantastic community of men and women who run businesses (often alongside their 9-5 employment and raising children) while their significant others serve in the UK Armed Forces.
We ran our first giveaway on Facebook and lucky winner Giuliana Britti received one of our We'll Meet Again bracelets, not long after the passing of Dame Vera Lynn, who was the wonderful inspiration behind that line of jewellery.
We celebrated Armed Forces Day with a week of offers and discounts (both our own and those from other military spouse businesses).
And throughout it all, the members of our Founding 35 group were the first to hear about our sale and other updates, and received an exclusive bonus to their Armed Forces Week discount. (And on that note, we still have a couple of spaces left for those of you who'd like to receive our offers ahead of the crowd.)
And what's to come?
A couple of passion projects have absolutely consumed my evenings this past week. To say that there are big plans for Arabella Jones would be an understatement: there's a fire in my soul. I won't say too much more now...but if you're a military family, watch this space.
And if you want to hear more, make sure you sign up for updates.
